Pre-operative Instructions

The following instructions may be helpful when preparing for your upcoming surgery. Please do not hesitate to call if you have any last minute questions. We can be reached at Daly City Phone Number 650-757-5700 during regular business hours.

You should receive your post-operative prescriptions with an instruction sheet. For your convenience, please have your prescriptions filled prior to your scheduled surgery.

It may be important to stop taking aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as Motrin and Advil, 5-7 days prior to your surgery. If you are taking Coumadin or another blood thinner, remember to discontinue them as directed by your physician. If you take antibiotic premedication, please take it as directed before your surgery. You will feel better if you have eaten prior to surgery. 

In order to evaluate your progress and healing, we will see you for several post-operative follow-up checks during the first 6 weeks.  After surgery, we will also look forward to seeing you back for a  post-operative healing polish(cleaning) at about 8-12 weeks following the surgery.


Please alert the office to any allergies or sensitivities that you might have to antibiotics. Typically you will be prescribed an antibiotic for surgical procedures.  Take as directed until gone. It is advisable not to take these medications on an empty stomach, as nausea may result. For women taking birth control pills, Please be advised that antibiotics may interfere with their effectiveness.


Dr. Westbrook usually provides patients an oral premedication prior to surgical procedures.  The oral premedication is not a general anesthesia.  You will not be asleep, but rather you will be more relaxed than without the pill.  With oral sedatives, you must have a ride home from your surgery. Remember, we encourage you to eat prior to your surgery.
